An OFSTED graded Outstanding lesson for introducing students to the design, make and evaluate requirements of design technology.
Ideal for Key Stage 3,4 and 5 including students with no previous hard technology experience.
The main focus of the lesson is to work as part of a small team to creatively problem solve, by creating a cardboard chair with limited equipment and resources.
The chair must be freestanding, and support the weight of a team member.
All Personal Learning Thinking Skills and Functional Skills are developed throughout this lesson and are detailed in the lesson plan.

A mini design and make project which introduces students to the required content for assessment for both GCSE and A Level Design Technology.
The students are required to manufacture a holder for a boiled egg, using a small amount of given dissimilar materials. They are to produce a mini portfolio of design work alongside the 3D outcome.
Pack consists of the unit of work, from design brief to evaluation, evaluation help sheet, as well as a summative assessment sheet for the teacher, which allows you to assess your students on the quality of the portfolio, design work and 3D outcome, as well as offering them the chance to feedback to you what they enjoyed/disliked about the project – an OFSTED favourite.
Graphic Design Children’s Book Illustration Home Learning Mini Project: 5 hours worth of teaching content.
Self assessment criteria for each task.
Tasks range from investigation into illustrators, through to design development, final design and self evaluation.
This project will allow students to take inspiration from existing children’s book illustrators, to redesign the front cover of a children’s book of their choice.
The project can be created by hand, or using digital design tools like Microsoft Office, or Adobe Design Software.
Suitable for KS3 and KS4 art and design and D&T.
A 9 hour KS3 technology project focusing on Upcycling and board game creation. The students are required to investigate existing board games, design and make their own and create a small wooden dice, clay counters/game pieces, and a fabric sleeve to hold their game.
The resource is clearly broken down into tasks and visual examples of previous work to help scaffold and support student learning.
Material requirements:
A4 modelling card
air dry clay (or playdough/modelling clay)
30x30mm square of wood (pine ideally)
recycled fabric for the sleeve (old curtains etc)
A promotional campaign focused graphic design project which encourages students to think about composition, typography, colour and imagery to create a poster for an event of their choice. The posters should ideally be created digitally, but could be designed by hand if required.

A graphic design project focusing on producing a promotional poster for an upcoming school event.
The resource has working examples of the project and includes task by task guidance on how to complete the project. Can be set as independent work or as part of a lesson by lesson scheme of work.
The resources starts with examples of the graphic design fundamentals and builds on these through the use of all skills during the project.
Work can be produced on Photoshop, photopea.com (free), Canva or Google Slides.
Can be used for KS3 or as part of a skills based mini project for KS4 graphic design, through an art and design GCSE.
18-20 hours expected completion time. Can be extended and reduced according to need.
A 10 task graphic design project which introduces students to the fundamentals of graphic design, and encourages them to use these newly acquired design skills to create music/album artwork for two genres.
Suitable for KS3 or KS4. The project itself focuses on merging 2 genres to creatively come with new artwork for a CD cover/playlist artwork. This can be done digitally or by hand.
All tasks are clearly explained with visual examples for many. There is assessment criteria which students can use to self assess.
There is also a music flyer extension task for those students who would benefit from stretch and challenge.
A great project for introducing students to the content of GCSE Art & Design (Graphic Communication).
The project is fully booklet based, and students produce work directly in the booklet, or digital and print it and glue into the appropriate titled page. There is a teacher led supporting PowerPoint included which shows more examples to help those who need additional support.
Suitable for KS3 or KS4. The project is based around creating design work in the style of a designer of choice which also matches a chosen theme. Examples are given at the start of the booklet.
There is also a PDF included which shows a range of other exam board approved designers which students can use as inspiration for their design work.
